Planning with Purpose: Making the Planning Bill work for climate, nature and communities
The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is set to transform the UK’s planning processes, accelerating the delivery of renewable energy, as well as housing and other infrastructure. It will be central to delivering the government’s 2030 clean power mission and, if reform is done well, can create a planning system which works better for climate, nature and communities.
As the Bill continues its passage through Parliament, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment is convening a private parliamentary roundtable on the legislation, following earlier work on the Bill in the spring. Building clean energy projects is key to meeting the UK’s climate goals and there is an urgent need to tackle the country’s housing crisis. Recent government amendments to the Bill on nature protections also recognise the need to tackle the climate and nature crises together.
This private parliamentary roundtable will be a forum for discussing how MPs and peers from across parties can work together to promote a balanced approach to forthcoming planning reforms. We will hear from expert speakers from business and charities, aiming to identify areas where parliamentarians could collectively promote ambitious outcomes for both the environment and people.
