Rooted in Faith, Rising for Justice: COP30, Muslim Communities and the Climate Crisis - Environment APPG and Islamic Relief
The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat. Across the world, especially in many Muslim-majority countries, people are already living through the worst of this crisis, facing devastating droughts and flooding, despite contributing the least to global warming.
As one of the UK’s most diverse faith communities, Muslims have a powerful opportunity to promote ambitious climate action. Islam calls on Muslims to care for the Earth (khalifah) and live in balance with nature, with many already organising events, campaigning and starting conversations in their communities. Yet in policymaking spaces, Muslim perspectives remain
underrepresented or overlooked.
As world leaders gather at COP30 for pivotal climate talks, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment and Islamic Relief UK are bringing together parliamentarians, environmental experts, civil society and grassroots organisations to champion inclusive climate action, ensure Muslim communities are heard, and discuss how to turn Islamic values
into environmental action.
This event will be chaired by Environment APPG supporter Afzal Khan MP. Details on attendance and how to RSVP will be shared shortly.
