Islamic Relief and the Environment APPG host a panel event on COP30, Muslim communities and the climate crisis

18 November 2025
As the climate crisis continues to have a devastating and disproportionate impact on people living in the Global South, Islamic Relief and the Environment APPG partnered together on this panel event to reflect on COP30 talks in Brazil, discuss how grassroot groups are working together with Muslim communities and other faith groups, and outline what further steps are needed from the UK government to support vulnerable communities most affected by climate change.

The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat. Across the world, especially in many Muslim-majority countries, people are already living through the worst of this crisis, facing devastating droughts and flooding, despite contributing the least to global warming.

our speakers reflected how, as one of the UK’s most diverse faith communities, Muslims have a powerful opportunity to promote ambitious climate action. Islam calls on Muslims to care for the Earth (khalifah) and live in balance with nature, with many already organising events, campaigning and starting conversations in their communities. Yet in policymaking spaces, Muslim perspectives remain underrepresented or overlooked.

Following talks at COP30 in Brazil earlier in November, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment and Islamic Relief UK brought together parliamentarians, environmental experts, civil society and grassroots organisations to discuss championing inclusive climate action, ensuring Muslim communities are heard, and how to turn Islamic values
into environmental action.
